PARINGIN (TABIRkota) – The National Alms Agency (BAZNAS) of Balangan Regency introduced a charity program called “Gerakan Cinta Zakat” (lit. Love Zakat Movement) on Thursday (April 13, 2023).
The event took place in the “Benteng Tundakan” Meeting Hall at the Regencial Secretariat Office of Balangan in Paringin Selatan.
Habib Muhammad Assegaf, Chairman of Balangan’s BAZNAS said, as one of the pillars of Islam, zakat becomes a form of obligatory charity that has the potential to ease the suffering of millions.
With the literal meaning of the word being “to cleanse”, Muslims believe that paying zakat purifies, increases and blesses the remainder of their wealth.
“The BAZNAS of Balangan utilises zakat to help some of the poorest and most destitute communities in Balangan. Your donations bring joy to these people, and brings hope that one day, they will be able to give rather than receive zakat”, Habib Muhammad Assegaf explained.
Meanwhile in his remarks, Balangan Regent H Abdul Hadi said that zakat, infaq and alms collected by BAZNAS of Balangan Regency were fully used to address different social and economic problems in the district.
“One of our work programs is to fight poverty, and this is in line with the goals of zakat, infaq and alms from all of you”, Regent Abdul Hadi said. (ra/ratnasari)
