BANJARMASIN (TABIRkota) – Search and Rescue (SAR) Office of Banjarmasin held a simulation exercise of the earthquake and liquefaction disasters, from Tuesday (March 29) to Thursday (March 31, 2022).
Liquefaction is a phenomenon in which the strength and stiffness of the ground is reduced by earthquake shaking or other rapid loading.
“The simulation exercise aims to make every personnel of the SAR Team better trained, and always ready when a disaster occurs”, Head of Banjarmasin SAR Office, Al Amrad, said.
The simulation was carried out in a completely spontaneous way, making it felt realistic to all personnels involved.
Here is the “storyline” of the simulation exercise:
“A major earthquake accompanied by liquefaction was reported to have happened in Marabahan, Barito Kuala at around 3 pm.
Receiving the report, personnels of Banjarmasin’s SAR rushed over immediately.
After preparing their personal protective equipment and technical equipment, 22 SAR members were deployed to the disaster area, which is about 50 kilometers from the Banjarmasin SAR Office.
Arriving at Marabahan, the situation was so dire.
The main subdistrict of Barito Kuala Regency has been ravaged by the earthquake and liquefaction.
The rescue team then moved quickly to give first aid and other needed measures to the victims.”
In addition to the earthquake and liquefaction simulation exercise, this year Banjarmasin SAR Office is still scheduling 2 (two) more exercises for its members.
The simulations comprise SAR operations in mountain and forest, and in water areas.(sah)
