Banjarmasin SAR to Hold High Altitude Rescue Exercise

BANJARMASIN (TabirKota) – The Search and Rescue (SAR) Office of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, organises a high altitude rescue training for the agency’s members.

The exercise has started on Saturday (March 26) and will last until Monday (March 28), at Banjarmasin SAR Office’s Avignam Field.

This high altitude rescue training was attended by 14 participants, and guided by instructors from nationally recognized organization, Vertical Rescue Indonesia.

Head of Banjarmasin SAR Office, Al Amrad says, the exercise is an internal, ongoing activity aiming to improve the competence of each rescuer.

“We will still organise several trainings with different topics at the next opportunities”, Al Amrad says.

After completing the exercise, each participant is expected to be able to: understand the principles of working at high altitude safely; carry out movements at height safely; perform techniques for lifting and lowering victims; and able to provide emergency treatment measures.

Lessons given during the exercise include knowledge on: ropes and knots; anchor and other equipment; ascending and descending; safety at work; and some other training materials.(ra)
