BANJARMASIN (TABIRkota) – The Provincial “Disperpusip” or “Dispersip” (Library and Archival Agency) of South Kalimantan was formed by the amalgamation of the National Library of South Kalimantan and the Regional Archives Office of South Kalimantan, on April 15, 2008.

The Disperpusip’s public library, which is located on Jalan Ahmad Yani Km 6, Pemurus Luar, Banjarmasin, is open 7 days a week except public holidays.

The library hours will be: Monday to Thursday (8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), Friday (9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), Saturday and Sunday (9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.).

Beside visiting the Disperpusip’s public library, users can also use its mobile app which is called “iKalsel”.

The application was launched in 2018, and is available in the Google Play Store.

The South Kalimantan Disperpusip’s library was established on May 23, 1959 under the name of the Public Library of Banjarmasin.

On June 23, 1978, the name of the Public Library of Banjarmasin was changed to the Regional Library of South Kalimantan Province.

Since then, the former building of South Kalimantan Regional Office of Ministry of Education and Culture, on Jalan Piere Tendean No. 106, Banjarmasin City, was subsequently converted into the Regional Library.

In the following years, regulations regarding libraries and archives continued to change.

These regulatory changes then had an impact on the hierarchical organisational structures of the Library and Archives of the province of South Kalimantan.

The changes occurred in 1990, 1997, 2001, 2004 and 2008, before finally forming the South Kalimantan Disperpusip or Dispersip as it is today. (sahrudin)
