RANTAU (TABIRkota) – Palm oil company PT Tri Buana Mas (a subsidiary of plantation giant Astra Agro Lestari) has recently donated hundreds of thousands of fingerlings to dozens of fisherfolk in Paminggir Village of Hulu Sungai Utara (HSU) Regency.
The contribution is part of the company’s CSR (corporate social responsibility) program, with the purpose of improving the fishers and their families’ livelihood.
Esti Setiyaningsih, a representative of PT Tri Buana Mas, stated, the CSR is given in the form of fingerlings considering that most of Paminggir villagers rely on fishing as a source of income and food.
Samsudinoor, foreman of fisherfolk group of Paminggir Village, appreciated the fingerlings contribution from PT Tri Buana Mas.
He and his fellow fishers can later practicing fish farming in large tanks and artificial ponds, in addition to catching fish in rivers.
“Earning a living as fisherfolk isn’t that easy. We sometimes don’t even get a fish out of a river. Yet we have to accept this condition, because that is our main way to survive”, the man whose nickname is Amang Udin, explained. (ant/sahrudin)
