South Kalimantan Wins First Two Gold Medals in Sport Climbing after 20-Year Wait

BANDA ACEH (TABIRkota) – South Kalimantan’s sport climbers Zaskia Al Zahra and Siti Noor Hemdi Salamah Syahputri have given two gold medals to the province in sport climbing, ending a wait of nearly 20 years, on Sunday (November 20).

Both Zaskia and Siti won the gold medals in the “25th/2021 Age Group National Championship of Sport Climbing” in Banda Aceh, the province of NAD (Nangroe Aceh Darussalam).

Beside gold medals, South Kalimantan has also collected two bronze medals until the 5th day of the championship.

The competition to be held in sport climbing venue at Harapan Bangsa Stadium from November 18-25, involving 216 sport climbers from 26 provinces, comprise 127 men and 89 women.

The championship, which is a program of the FPTI (Indonesian Federation of Sport Climbing), provides a total of 28 gold medals available to be won.

The event features five age groups with two different categories and five disciplines.

Several Pelatnas’ (national training camp) junior sport climbers also partake in the championship, representing their respective provinces.

Through the occasion, the FPTI is preparing the Pelatnas’ sport climbers for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris of France. (sahrudin)
