Flooding may Happen in Banjarmasin, Residents Urged to Stay Calm

BANJARMASIN (TABIRkota) – Municipal Government of Banjarmasin through its Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) issued flood warning on Friday (November 12).

Residents, however, were told not to panic and remain calm.

“There is no need to panic, but we need to prepare now”, Head of Banjarmasin’s BPBD, Fahruraji stated.

Although the tide was rising, he said that it was only normal.

“The condition usually won’t last long. We have monitored it at midnight, and three hours later, the tide began to recede”, Mr Fahruraji told Antara.

If any certain place where the tide lasts until the morning or midday, he reckoned, there are probably any clogged drain.

Banjarmasin’s BPDB itself has deployed approximately 150 volunteers in the areas that have been subjected to flooding.

The volunteers have also been equipped with personal flotation device and personal protective equipment. (sah/RA)
