MUARA TEWEH (TABIRkota) – SMP Bangkanai, a junior secondary school established by energy company PT Medco Energi Internasional, Tbk through its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) program, is still facing teacher shortage.
SMP Bangkanai was gradually built in 2019 in Karendan Village, Lahei Subdistrict of Barito Utara Regency, in the province of Central Kalimantan.
Currently, the school has only four non-permanent teachers, who are seconded from an elementary school nearby.
Headmaster of SMP Bangkanai, Marindu stated that the school has been conducting teaching and learning activities, and going into the new school year of 2021/2022.
“We have been opening by September with only three classrooms and 13 students”, Mr Marindu said, in Muara Teweh, the capital of Barito Utara, Tuesday (November 9).
SMP Bangkanai was built with the purpose of helping villagers of Karendan and surrounding villages, in looking for junior secondary school closest to their homes.
Mr Marindu hoped that Regencial Government of Barito Utara will also give assistance to the school in dealing with teacher shortage. (sah/RA)
